Woman mistakes Shrek statue for Buddha idol, worships it for 4 years | Viral News – News9live
In a special April Fool’s Day edition of the Daily Report, we are reminded to be careful not to confuse one’s god with a fictional animated ogre. A woman in the Philippines did just that when she bought a green statue at a local store, thinking it was a statue of Buddha.
Her mistake was brought to her attention by a friend who, while visiting, pointed out that her “god” was just a statue of the cartoon character Shrek. The owner of the Shrek-Buddha had been unknowingly worshipping a statue instead of a deity. (I know what you are thinking, and we will get there.) Other than being shocked at this discovery, the woman’s response beyond this is unknown.
If your god can be confused with a potbellied ogre, he probably is not much of a god.
This is not an April Fool’s joke—this woman truly mistook a fictional ogre for Buddha. How sad it is that her god could be mistaken in such a way. This stands in stark contrast to the one true God, Who created the heavens and the earth. This should be an “aha moment” for all worshippers of Buddha: any god who resembles Shrek is not much of a god.
Shrek and Buddha have the same abilities to answer prayers.
Obvious questions arise: What happened to her prayers? Did they count? Did she waste them? The truth is, she did waste them, but no more than if she had been praying to an actual statue of Buddha. She has as much of a chance of Shrek answering her prayers as she does of Buddha answering them. Neither can hear a prayer, much less answer it.
Both Shrek and Buddha statues are made with a profit in mind.
Remember in Acts 19, when Demetrius, a maker of shrines for the false god Diana, was concerned for his livelihood and that of his fellow craftsmen as many of their customers began converting to Christianity? This situation is no different. Whether one makes statues of Shrek or of Buddha, the goal is not selling hope but hoping to make a sale. What many fail to see is that false religion is big business.
While I wish this were an April Fool’s joke, this story sadly is real. How tragic it is that so many in this world worship objects made by man from wood and stone. Friend, we worship the Almighty. There is no confusing Him with any other gods. Do not be fooled—any other god is no god at all.
