Waiting Is Not Wasted

Psalm 46:1-11

In Psalm 46, we find the words, Be still, and know that I am God: We must remember that no matter what difficulty we are facing or enduring, though we must not be indecisive, we can be still and know that God is in control!

We must learn to be patient and trust in God, even in the unknown. That is faith. Sometimes, only God can work in our situation. Only God can give peace and discernment. Often, God wants to teach us something or reveal something to us, either to keep us from harm or to help us as we grow in grace.

Patience is defined as “the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.” It is the ability to wait or to continue doing something despite struggle and difficulty. This does not mean we should procrastinate or delay doing what we should. A good example of this is Noah and the Flood. Though Noah waited for that day to come when the rain would begin, in the meantime, he was preparing.

This is such a good example for Christians, especially for teenagers and young adults. God has a plan and purpose for all of our lives, but until that day comes, we must prepare. We must continue to develop ourselves spiritually and to grow and mature in the Lord.

Patience brings wisdom and understanding. Patience is a revealer, showing what we really want and do not want, spiritually speaking. It reveals friendships and character. It shows how others influence us and how our influence can impact others. It reveals the consequence of our choices, which allows us to learn and develop.

This is why counsel is so important, whether that be from a parent, pastor, or spiritual leader. The Bible says in Proverbs 11:14, Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. Our counselors should be chosen carefully and should be proven individuals.

There is an old expression: Don’t rush the washing machine. Godly counselors remind us that we need to Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. In other words, they remind us of those faithful words, Be still, and know that I am God:…

One minute of patience can lead to ten years of peace.

Avoid making an impatient, frustrated decision for whatever reason because it can lead to regret. Single adults, be patient in dating. Trust your counselors. Christians, be patient with your speech. Others are listening. We must be patient with where we want to be. We may not be where we want to be in life right now, but God knows exactly where we are.

Life will come at us fast, overwhelmingly so. We do not need to rush it. If we rush into the storm unprepared, we might drown. Patience is a part of preparation, and preparation is a key to success. Be still, and know that I am God.

No matter what you are facing or enduring, keep trusting in the Lord!
