A study conducted by an organization in the United Kingdom confirms what men and women everywhere already knew to be true. The conclusion of this study, which examined whether men get bored while shopping, may not have surprised most. However, the speed at which boredom set in might have been rather unexpected.
The study found that men begin feeling bored while shopping after only 26 minutes. The study also showed contributing factors to the boredom such as being hungry, shopping in crowded stores, and missing out on TV and sports.
Additionally, the study revealed that women typically stay focused and engaged for nearly two hours before feeling frustrated, mostly due to their inability to find what they are seeking. Many of the men surveyed admitted to wandering off out of boredom.
Arguments also resulted from men growing bored with shopping. I am thinking of a new slogan: “Couples who shop less together stay together.”
While I do not have much of a spiritual application to make on this subject, it does remind us that God made men and women to be different. Ladies, you cannot make a man want to shop with you on a Saturday afternoon while his favorite football team is playing on TV. This does not mean he will not go shopping, but it may mean you have 26 minutes of his focus—if he is average.
Men, we should try to stay engaged when shopping with our wives. At the very least, we should aim to stay focused for half an hour before wandering off!
In fairness, even without the results of this study, it is a known fact that men are simple creatures. In most cases, it probably holds true that, unless there is a new tool, a gun, or something related to fire, we are easily distracted.
