This weekend, we will celebrate Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday. Unfortunately, the world and false religions have distorted the truths surrounding this event. Satan loves when biblical facts become twisted into falsehoods to deceive and confuse the lost. It is vital that we, as the saved, understand the truths of what was done for mankind by Jesus, from the Cross to the empty tomb.
For this week’s One More Thing…, here are a few things to consider as we remember and celebrate this Resurrection Sunday:
Our hope is sure.
I Corinthians 15:16-19 reminds us, For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
Hope comes from knowing that one day we will be resurrected, or raptured, to be with our Lord. That hope is made possible because of Christ’s resurrection. We have hope in Him. People who do not know Christ are hopeless. For them, death is a fearful thing. We do not need to fear death because we know that one day our resurrected Lord will call us home to be with Him.
Our salvation is certain.
Romans 10:9 says, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Without the resurrection, the work of salvation would not have been completed. His resurrection was an important part of His work on our behalf. It is important that people understand that Christ is alive.
Our forgiveness is complete.
Philippians 3:20-21 says, For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
The resurrection of Christ was important because God could not have forgiven our sins without a perfect sacrifice. Had Christ remained in the grave, our forgiveness would not have been complete. It was the resurrection of Christ that allowed God to forgive the sins we have committed. As important as His death was to our salvation, His resurrection was necessary to complete that work.
Our debt is paid.
Romans 4:25 says, Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
Our sins made us indebted to God. It was a debt we could not pay; thus, we were assigned to Hell as debtors for our sins. Christ paid the price and delivered Himself to the Father to pay the debt in full.
Our sins are forgotten.
Romans 8:34 says, Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Our sins and iniquities are not remembered by God. He sits at the right hand of the Father interceding for us. When Satan tries to accuse us to God, Jesus is our Advocate. Without His intervention, our sins would not be forgotten.
Our soul is saved.
Ephesians 2:4-5 says, But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
When God breathed the breath of life into Adam, man became a living soul. The soul of man is eternal, either to live eternally in Heaven or to suffer eternally in Hell. When Christ rose from the grave, He made it possible for our soul to live eternally with Him. How wonderful it is to know that our soul does not have to perish in Hell because of His resurrection.
Our eternity is secure.
I Peter 1:3-5 says, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Death has been overcome by the resurrection of Christ, making our eternity secure in Him at salvation. Many Christians live in unnecessary fear of death. Death is merely a change of address for the believer. Our permanent home awaits us after our physical death.
Romans 6:5-11, For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
