On April 27, 2025, the Catholic institution plans to bestow upon Carlo Acutis the official title of “saint.” Acutis was a 15-year-old teenager who died of leukemia in 2006. His lifeless body—enrobed in blue jeans, a sweatshirt, and tennis shoes—is currently on display in a shrine at a Catholic church in Italy.
As a student of Baptist History, I am not shy about the fact that I believe the Catholic institution has deceived many people into believing unbiblical doctrine and has condemned many to Hell. The Catholic institution is guilty of murdering tens of millions of true Christians. Many of the doctrines promulgated by the Catholic institution are blatantly opposed to Scripture. One of those falsehoods is the idea that a mere man can be holy. Scripture says in Romans 3:10, As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: For centuries, many have been deceived into thinking sinful man is holy enough to be worshipped.
The case of Carlo Acutis has brought some division, even among the Catholic ranks. There are those who believe that the veneration of a saint is not an honor to be bestowed upon a teenager. He is known in some circles as the “gaming saint” because it was widely known that he enjoyed playing Halo, Mario, and Pokémon. He was considered a computer geek. Acutis had been dedicated to the Catholic institution. He developed a website devoted to documenting supposed Eucharistic miracles and apparitions of the Mother Mary. Because of this, he garnered a large online following. Shortly after his death, many of his followers began petitioning to canonize him. Pope Francis credited Acutis with two different miracles because people said they had prayed for Acutis’ intervention in the life of their loved ones and that they were healed. Once the miracles were attributed to Acutis, the way was paved for his canonization, set to happen this month.
As foolish as this is, the truth is that age does not matter. No man is worthy to be called a holy saint. It does not matter if he is the Pope or a teenager. Sadder than the fact that “religion” has exalted man to the level of Jesus Christ is that millions of people have been deceived into believing it. For too long, the Catholic institution has left Jesus Christ on the Cross and put man on the throne. The Bible has some things to say about this.
Man should not worship anyone but God. (Exodus 20:3)
Man should not pray to anyone but God. (I Timothy 2:5)
Man should not credit man for miracles that God performs. (Ephesians 3:21)
Man cannot forgive the sins of another man, only God can. (Luke 5:21-24)
Religion has blinded the eyes of so many people. May those of us with the Truth be faithful witnesses as God commands us to be. There is a lost and dying world that has been deceived and will split Hell wide open unless someone reaches them.
