This past Monday night, Binding the Brokenhearted Ministry hosted a Night of Hope for those in a Jacksonville, Florida community who are dealing with grief. This grief workshop offers scriptural solutions to those grieving in a world flooded with temporary fixes. With this biblical focus, Binding the Brokenhearted Ministry centers on providing the grieving with a compassionate community, practical tools for coping, Night of Hope grief workshops, and hope for the future. This ministry began last year and has gradually developed its resources as well as expanded its reach into the community with free online grief tips, an exclusive online interactive community, handcrafted Scripture writing journals, and dedicated grief workshops called the Night of Hope.
One of the highlights of the Night of Hope is seeing a hurting person receive the assurance that healing is a process and that it is okay to grieve. From the opening comments to the parting remarks, every word at this past Monday’s Night of Hope was spoken to shed a little bit of light on the dark weight of grief being carried by those who were in attendance. Using personal examples of the pain of losing a child, the hurt of a personal betrayal, and the shock of an unexpected medical diagnosis, the Night of Hope explored the many facets of grief and the toll that grief can take on an individual. Attendees were encouraged, through the scriptural examples of how Job endured his great trial and the grief that accompanied it, to be honest with themselves about their grief. They were counseled to allow themselves adequate time to grieve and to accept that grief will affect them physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
In closing, the Night of Hope focused on the Man of Sorrows—Jesus Christ—and on His example of how to deal with grief in the simple words found in John 11:35: Jesus wept. As these two words began to sink into the hearts and minds of those in attendance, each individual was reminded that if Christ took the time to mourn and grieve, while fully knowing that healing would soon take place, they must allow themselves the time to grieve, also.
The workshop concluded with this reminder: “The people who make a difference take action,” meaning everyone is responsible for taking action while dealing with grief.
